Szkło kontaktowe

Szkło kontaktowe (trans. Contact lens) is a Polish satirist programme shown 7 times a week on TVN 24. Szkło kontaktowe launched on January 25, 2005. It is hosted by Grzegorz Miecugow, Tomasz Sianecki and Wojciech Zimiński.

Satirists (Artur Andrus, Ilona Łepkowska, Krzysztof Daukszewicz, Tomasz Jachimek, Marek Przybylik, Wojciech Zimiński, Grzegorz Markowski and Kamil Dąbrowa) comment with the programme host the "funniest" news and stories of the day, with focus on the news from domestic politics. Bystanders take part in the programme. They can call, send text messages or e-mail and discuss on-the-air with the host and his guest.

From time to time, special editions, often unscheduled, cover important event. Past special editions are:

Szkło kontaktowe is popular in Poland among many of the ruling elite and post-communist politicians and journalists. It has been attacked for being extremely biassed by politicians of the main opposition party (Prawo i Sprawiedliwość): Jarosław Kaczyński, Ludwik Dorn and anti-establishment journalist Rafał Ziemkiewicz. In the show, politicians of all parties are gently mocked, but the right wing party Prawo i Sprawiedliwosc is simply ridiculed.

The programme is believed to have divided opinion in Polish society so strongly that during the funeral of late President Lech Kaczynski, who many Poles feel had been treated especially harshly by the TVN network before his tragic death, mourners started calling for the network to be switched off from the main telebeams when one of the show's hosts Grzegorz Miecugow appeared on screen in what appeared to be a provocative discussion (given the timing) about the "demons of Polish patriotism."[1]

Szkło kontaktowe has won awards: Wiktory 2006 (TV debut of the year), Ulubiony program rozrywkowy (A favorite show) on The Good Mood Festival and Hit roku (Hit of the year) on Media & Marketing Polska Plebiscite.

Szkło kontaktowe organized a Lustro Szkła Kontaktowego plebiscite (Mirror of Szkło kontaktowe). The winner is Joanna Senyszyn, vice-president of SLD.

It is the most popular programme broadcast by TVN 24.
